Overview

  • Dr. Joseph Roniger received his undergraduate degree in 1963 from Tulane University with a major in English. Following four years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, he returned to medical school at Tulane and received his medical degree in 1971. He completed and internship from 1971 to 1972 at the Harkness Hospital in San Francisco. Afterward, Dr. Roniger returned to Tulane and completed a psychiatry residency from 1972-1975 while also serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Roniger has been board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 1978 in General Psychiatry. He maintained a private psychiatric practice for 27 years while also serving on the clinical psychiatry staff at Tulane. Following Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Wyoming where he worked at the state hospital and served as medical director. Before permanently returning to his hometown of New Orleans, Dr. Roniger worked for two years in Connecticut in a psychiatry outpatient clinic serving adult patients at that center. He joined the Ochsner staff in July 2019. He has a longstanding specialty interest in psychopharmacology.
