Overview

  • Dr. Veronica Gillispie-Bell is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist who practices at Ochsner Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She earned her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in 2004. She went on to complete her residency training at Ochsner Health in 2008. She received her Masters of Applied Science degree in patient safety and healthcare quality from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2020. Clinically, Dr. Gillispie-Bell provides obstetric care to low, moderate, and high-risk patients as well as gynecology patients of all ages. Dr. Gillispie-Bell performs advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted laparoscopic procedures. She has a special clinical interest in treatment options for women who suffer from symptoms related to fibroids. As such, she serves as the director of the center for the minimally invasive treatment of uterine fibroids: an integrated, collaborative effort to provide women with minimally invasive treatment options for symptoms related to fibroids, and is the principal investigator for a national Phase 3 clinical trial for medication for the treatment of symptoms related to fibroids. Dr. Gillispie-Bell has served in leadership positions both locally and nationally. She has served as vice-chair and chair of the Junior Fellow Louisiana Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Nationally, she has served as a member of the Committee on Healthcare for Underserved Women for ACOG and the Council on Residency Education for Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) as well as a member of the National Advisory Council on Maternal, Infant, and Fetal Nutrition under the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Gillispie-Bell is currently the medical director of the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative and Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review. In this role, she works with the birthing facilities and state leaders to improve maternal outcomes with a particular focus on achieving health equity. In addition to compassionate patient care, Dr. Gillispie-Bell is both very dedicated and passionate about education. She has served as the associate program director for the OB/GYN residency program and is the clerkship director for obstetrics and gynecology and an associate professor at the University of Queensland and Ochsner Clinical School. Through these leadership roles, she helps to shape and mold the physicians of tomorrow. She also serves as the director of quality in women's services at Ochsner Baptist. Dr. Gillispie-Bell has received many awards and accolades. During her residency, she received the 2008 Alton Ochsner Resident Leader of the Year award. In 2012, she received the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Excellence in Teaching Award. Annually, since 2015, she has been named one of New Orleans Magazine's Best Doctors, Best Doctors in America, America's Best Physicians, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors. She also received Xavier University of Louisiana's Alumni 40 Under 40 Achievement Award in 2016. She has also been quoted in several local and national publications and is regularly featured on local television media.
