Overview

  • Dr. Jeff Burkeen completed his undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in biological sciences. He then received his master's degree in biology from Texas A&M University, where he studied the neurobiology of circadian rhythms in the mammalian hypothalamus. Following this, Dr. Burkeen received his medical degree from Texas A&M and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society following his third year of medical school. Between his third and fourth years of medical school, he was accepted into the Medical Research Scholars Program at the NIH, a prestigious research fellowship where he studied radio-sensitizing drugs under the direction of Dr. Deborah Citrin at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Burkeen completed his internship in internal medicine at Tulane University. He then completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of California, San Diego, and served as chief resident during his last year in the program. His areas of expertise include cancers of the head and neck, skin, gastrointestinal, and hematologic systems.
