Overview

  • Dr. Matthew Giefer received his medical degree with honors from Loyola University in Chicago in 2006. He went on to complete his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Vermont. He completed fellowships in pediatric gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at the University of Washington. Dr. Giefer is an international expert in diagnosing and treating both common and rare gastrointestinal diseases. He has authored over 40 publications and has spoken nationally and internationally on his research including pancreatitis and gastrointestinal endoscopy. He co-established the Foundation for Childhood Pancreatitis and serves on many other local and national committees. Dr. Giefer's research includes investigating the causes and treatments of pediatric pancreatitis as well as how to safely apply advanced endoscopic procedures in children. Dr. Giefer is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. He is an associate professor at the University of Queensland and a member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
