Overview

  • Dr. Richard Zweifler earned his medical degree from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans in 1990 after receiving his BSE in bioengineering, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Zweifler's postgraduate training includes a cerebrovascular disease fellowship earned at the University of California in San Diego, CA, where he also completed his neurology residency. He served his internal medicine internship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. Before joining Ochsner Health as System Chair of Neurology Dr. Zweifler was Chief of Neurosciences for Sentara Health Care in Norfolk, Virginia as well as Professor and Chair of Neurology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Prior to joining Sentara Dr. Zweifler held numerous academic positions at the University of South Alabama, including Professor of Neurology and Director of the Stroke Center, Vascular Neurology Fellowship, Neurosonology Lab and Medical Student Education (Neurology). He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both neurology and vascular neurology. Dr. Zweifler is an elected Fellow of the American Stroke Association and serves as a member of several other professional societies and committees including the American Academy of Neurology and the World Stroke Organization.
