Overview

  • Dr. Clayton Smith received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from Tulane University. As part of his graduate training at Tulane, he completed a Ph.D. in neuroscience investigating the neurobiology of learning and memory. Following this he completed his internship at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, and radiation oncology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. During residency, he completed the American Board of Radiology Holman Research Pathway and served as Chief Resident from 2015-2016. Dr. Smith is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and has been on staff at Ochsner since 2018. He has expertise in treating cancers of the brain, lung, and gastrointestinal tract as well as specializing in stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy. He has participated in the NRG Oncology national clinical trials cooperative group New Investigators Committee. Dr. Smith currently serves as Clinical Director for the Ochsner Department of Radiation Oncology.
