Overview

  • Dr. Benjamin Guevara was born and raised on the Louisiana North Shore. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville with a double major in American government and biology and returned home to attend medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. There, Dr. Guevara was accepted into the AOA Honor Society. He completed a residency at the famed Willis Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. After five years of residency, Dr. Guevara completed a sports medicine fellowship under the world-renowned physician Dr. James Andrews at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida. He gained experience treating athletes of all ages from elementary school to retirees. He helped treat some of the best athletes around the world in professional leagues including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, as well as numerous colleges and universities. He returned home to the North Shore and joined Ochsner in Slidell, where he took over management of the sports medicine program and provides on and off-field coverage for almost all local high schools in St. Tammany Parish. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of numerous orthopedic societies and helps with training some of the medical students, residents, and fellows of the Ochsner program. Dr. Guevara enjoys the opportunity to help get people back to the sports, habits, and hobbies that they enjoy. He takes pride in restoring function and quality of life to those who have been hurting. He appreciates the privilege of caring for the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi. He uses state of the art techniques and materials to provide the best care possible in a friendly and cooperative atmosphere. He tries to be as expedient and efficient as possible because your time is valuable but still answers all questions and engages in shared decision-making. He sees patients in Slidell and Covington. He specializes in the care of the shoulder and knee but treats problems of all bones and joints. On a personal side, Dr. Guevara and his wife, Amy, are the proud parents of two children. They are actively involved as members of the Church of the King in Mandeville. He enjoys staying active through triathlons, CrossFit, and golf. He enjoys reading and is a huge LSU and Saints fan!
