Overview

  • Dr. Jose Mena earned his medical degree in San Jose, Costa Rica. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans and went on to perform a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at New York University. After being on faculty at the Medical College of Georgia, and subsequently in private practice, Dr. Mena returned to Ochsner to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. He stayed on as an attending physician performing both cardiothoracic and peripheral vascular surgery. His professional interests include heart valve operations, coronary artery and carotid artery operations, surgery on the aorta including endograft repair of aneurysms, heart and lung transplantation, endovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures, and the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the veins in the lower extremities. He practices at the Ochsner Health Centers in Covington, Slidell, and Hammond.
