Overview

  • Bonnie Alvey has been in the nursing profession for 31 years at Ochsner on Jefferson Highway. She graduated with an associate degree in nursing in 1974 and then completed her BSN in 1982. When she joined Ochsner in 1984, she functioned as the Nutrition Support Nurse for 10 years before pursuing the specialization of wound, ostomy, and continence nursing (WOCN). She completed the Enterostomal Therapy Education Program at MD Anderson in 1994. Since that time she has provided specialized wound and ostomy care as well as providing related nursing education.She completed a Masters degree at University of South Alabama in Adult and Geriatric Health and became certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). As a CNS, she now provides Enterostomal Therapy services in the first and only outpatient clinic in the New Orleans region. She is able to provide expert care and assist persons with ostomies, wounds, fistulas, skin problems related to the above and incontinence. The Enterostomal Clinic is located within the Ochsner Colon and Rectal Surgery and Gastrointestinal Services Department.Bonnie is presently a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society and the American Nurses Association. She has spoken at several national conferences over the years and provided many CE programs related to ostomy, wounds, and pressure ulcer prevention.
