Overview

  • Dr. James Kalyvas is a neurosurgeon with expertise in the treatment of a broad range of neurosurgical disorders of the brain and spine, with advanced training and interest in the complex spinal cord and spinal column surgery — including spinal tumors, vascular disorders, scoliosis and other spinal deformities. Dr. Kalyvas earned his Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Biochemistry at Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his Doctor of Medicine degree at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York, New York. He completed his residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where he also completed a fellowship in complex spine and spinal deformity surgery, and a fellowship in radiosurgery. He has published multiple articles and book chapters and has presented at several neurosurgical conferences at the state, national and international levels. In addition to the treatment of spinal disorders, Dr. Kalyvas also has academic interests in the development of international neurosurgery and medicine, particularly in the developing world.
