Overview

  • Dr. John Seal completed his medical school and residency training in general surgery at the University of Chicago. He continued his training in abdominal organ transplantation at Toronto General Hospital & Hospital for Sick Kids focusing on living donor and pediatric liver transplantation. He received joint accreditation in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgical oncology with an interest in the management of primary and metastatic tumors of the liver and the application of transplant techniques to complex liver tumor resection. He joined Ochsner in 2014 with expertise in abdominal organ transplantation and HPB surgical oncology.Dr. Seal completed a research fellowship at the University of Chicago in translational systems biology and is interested in applying agent-based modeling and simulation techniques to better understand the complex adaptive properties of organ allocation, rejection, and tolerance. His clinical research is focused on outcomes in donation-after-circulatory-death (DCD) and living donor liver transplantation.
